Newtown Parks & Recreation sponsors year-round cultural and sporting activities, programs and trips for adults and children. Check out the Parks & Rec Summer 2023 Programs & Events here.
The Newtown Community Center also offers recreational programs.
Parks:
Five town parks provide residents with swimming, tennis, a skate park, softball and baseball, turf and grass sport fields, a dog park, riverfront and shaded picnic areas, pavilions and playgrounds for enjoyment by the whole family.
Hiking Trails:
There are miles of hiking trails throughout the country hills and pastures of Newtown.

Boating:
Newtown offers boating on both Lake Lillinonah and Lake Zoar

Eichler’s Cove: Offers a marina, boat launch, picnic area and beach. Boat Launch available to Newtown

Two private country club golf courses are located in Newtown.

Richter Park Golf Course: Nearby, an 18-hole, par 72 course, rated “one of the top ten public golf courses in the U.S.” by Golf Digest.
Farmers Market at Fairfield Hills: Open mid-June thru mid-October, Tuesdays afternoons from 2 -6pm.
Shortt’s Farm & Garden: A working farm and farm store in Sandy Hook, it is the place to go for farm fresh organic vegetables and local flavors.
Ferris Acres Creamery: As the last working dairy farm in Fairfield County, Ferris Acres offers delicious homemade ice cream.
Newtown has several hunting, fishing and bridle clubs as well as lakes offering a range of recreational opportunities for members.

Shopping
Enjoy boutiques, antiques, specialty shops, and dining found in The Borough of Newtown at The Villages at Lexington Gardens, and in Sandy Hook Village. Sand Hill Plaza and Plaza South provide a variety of businesses and small shops along South Main Street in Newtown. You can also shop at New England’s largest mall, the Danbury Fair Mall.
