What does your company do?
LMT—Lab Management Today—is a trade magazine that provides how-to business strategies for dental laboratory owners and managers. We also are the sponsor of our industry’s largest trade shows which generate attendance of over 5,500 laboratory personnel annually.

Why is your company located in Newtown – or why did you decide to grow your business in Newtown?
The company, now in its 31st year, started in my house in Wilton, moved to rental space in Norwalk and then, when I built a home in Newtown, I moved the business to Monroe where we rented for 14 years. In the interim, we grew from a staff of five to twelve and our space no longer comfortably suited our workflow so we decided to build our own facility. Once that decision was made it was easy to choose to be in Newtown since we love the strong sense of community we have living here. In fact, as a former New Yorker, I never felt as at home in Connecticut as I have since moving to Newtown.

For my business, I had my eye on a gorgeous but extremely run-down antique house on Main Street that was for sale. My hope was to build a new barn-style building behind the house for my company and renovate and then rent out the antique house. The timing was perfect: the town was about to approve rezoning regulations to allow this residential property to be rezoned for office/retail use.

How long has your company been in Newtown?
We are the new kids on the block, having moved into our building in May 2009, and we’re looking forward to participating in the various town activities that enable businesses here to become integrated with the community. Why do you think other businesses might find Newtown to be an attractive location for their company? The town and zoning boards went the extra mile to offer us step-by-step guidance and encouragement all through the approval and building process. This is a town that takes pride in its pastoral beauty and really cares about creating a pleasant experience and environment for those who live and work here.
